This year’s theme, #GiveToGain, reminds us that when we invest in women through support and opportunity, we all benefit. At Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre, we are proud to spotlight the incredible team members who are making waves and inspiring the next generation.
Meet Aili
A big part of Aili’s inspiration comes from growing up by the beach, where her love for the water first began and later led her to become a swim teacher. She finds joy in helping children grow into confident swimmers and approaches long distance swimming as a personal challenge, simply showing up, being present, and giving it a go.
What inspired your career and what do you love about coaching? "I have always had a love for water growing up by the beach so swim teaching was a fabulous way to spend extra time around water. I also love working with children and seeing them thrive. The children I teach in our community bring me so much joy as I see them grow and develop into strong little swimmers”.
What is your advice for women looking to build confidence in the pool? "I think as a long distance swimmer you really need to remember that you aren’t racing with anyone else. It’s about showing up and giving it a go. And the distance will come second”.
How do you stay motivated and prioritise your own wellbeing? "As I balance full time study as well as working I find the time I get to spend on my health and well being is my me time. I can switch off everything else that’s happening in my day and be in the moment”.
