At Belmont, we’re proud to celebrate every member and their achievements. Nothing inspires us more than watching our community grow, not just in fitness, but in confidence too. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone, no matter their age, fitness level, or background, feels supported, empowered, and free to work towards their personal goals.

This week, in light of Women’s Health Week, we want to shine a spotlight on our dedicated and inspirational member Maree Meloncelli.

Maree is 54 years old, and despite working a job that requires her to be seated most of the day, she is always focused on improving her fitness and making sure her physical and mental health is the best that it can be!

Maree joined the Health Club with the goals of getting fit and thin, but she soon found this mindset exhausting.

She became inspired by other women in the gym who were training to be strong and healthy, realising that she too wanted to prioritise and commit to improving her whole physical health through weight and strength training. She later found that this refreshing mindset improved her mental health and her outlook on many things.

Why the gym is important to Maree.

Working in a job that keeps her seated for most of the day, she sometimes finds it challenging to stay motivated and can slip into an unhealthy mindset. Over time, she’s discovered that the best way to break this cycle is to push past the voice telling her she “can’t be bothered”, and just get moving.

She knows that being active daily improves her mood, mental clarity and energy, while also working to limit her risk of generational Type 2 Diabetes.

Since joining the club, Maree has seen big improvements in her ability to prioritise her nutrition and eat the right food to fuel her body. She loves getting into strength training because it makes her feel strong both physically and mentally.

How Maree prioritises health and fitness everyday:

She constantly reminds herself that fitness is the key to lifelong health, supporting mental clarity, improving sleep quality, and reducing the risk of disease.

Maree’s advice for other women looking to improve their health:

“You don’t have to rush, you just need to be consistent and that it is okay to say “yes” to change! And to not be afraid of weight/strength training – just start small and see where it takes you”

Thank you, Maree, for your dedication and inspiring spirit, we’re truly honoured to have you as part of our Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre community.
