Men's Mental Health Week in June is an important time to pause, reflect, and keep the conversation going. It's about creating spaces where we can talk openly about well-being and remind each other that mental health is just as important as physical health.
To help us mark the occasion, we caught up with our Member of the Month, Andrew. His fitness journey is a powerful reminder of how building a daily routine and finding a community can lead to profound changes inside and out. Andrew shared how stepping into the gym has not only transformed his physical health but also provided a massive boost to his daily mental well-being:
"It's about keeping your body moving. Being active, the endorphin rush and the discipline to give yourself a template everyday. There is also a social aspect, a bunch of laughs, and the same group of people at the same time. This is the fittest I have been in my life at 55 years old. And for the first time I can look in the mirror and feel content with myself."
Taking that first step and maintaining motivation is often the hardest part, especially when you are feeling overwhelmed, intimidated, or unsure of yourself. Reflecting on how he built his own ingrained habits, Andrew offered this incredibly encouraging advice for anyone who might be hesitant to begin:
"It's all about little bites. Consistency and Discipline, Thats it! It's a habit now – It's part of everyday life. If I miss any part of it, I have to make it up somewhere else."
His story is proof that simply showing up for yourself (and having a few laughs along the way) is half the battle. Whether you are lifting weights, going for a swim, or joining a group fitness class, building a consistent routine is a great way to boost your mood, build confidence, and take charge of your mental health.
Well done Andrew!
