Royal Life Saving WA recently launched their Aqua Skills 55+ program at Belmont Oasis! The popular program teaches participants vital swimming and lifesaving skills to help them stay safe around water.
With the most recent Royal Life Saving National Drowning Report stating that more than half (52%) of those who fatally drowned in WA last financial year were over the age of 55, Royal Life Saving WA wanted to ensure there were resources available for those in this age group learn or update their swimming and rescue skills.
The program includes one session per week over four weeks and is suitable for people of all skill levels from everyday swimmers to those who only dip their toes in occasionally. Participants will gain skills to deal with emergency situations, personal survival techniques and an understanding of water safety knowledge to reduce the likelihood of drowning.
